Can You Suggest a Reading List for Training Elders?

In addition to a good commentary on the Westminster Confession (A Faith to Live By by Donald MacLeod from Christian Focus Publications), I’d also include the following:

Pastoral Visitation: A Pocket Manual by David Short and David Searle (Christian Focus Publications). Each chapter focuses on a different life situation or cause of spiritual distress, providing brief suggestions for pertinent Scripture and themes for prayer.  It is an ideal book to have close at hand for ministry.

The Elder and His Work by David Dickson (P & R)

Biblical Eldership: An Urgent Call to Restore Biblical Church Leadership by Alexander Strauch (Lewis and Roth)

Nine Marks of a Healthy Church by Mark Dever (Crossway)

The Elders Handbook by Berghoff de Koster (Christian’s Library Press)

Elders in Congregational Life by Phil A. Newton (Kregel)

City on a Hill by Philip Ryken (Moody)

A Manual for Officer Training by David Hall and Mark Buckner (Covenant Foundation)
